Unwinding… Do we, really?

Daily writing prompt
How do you unwind after a demanding day?

Demanding days are part of the routine everyone has to go through eventually, as they grow older and responsibilities become a thing. Some have easier days, some have harder, and then there are those in between whose days are once like that and then like the other. No matter what, every day can be difficult in its own way, or demanding, to use a better word for it. By the time you finish your studies or the moment you start working at your new job, you find yourself facing a couple of responsibilities, bills to pay, shopping to be done, etc. And eventually, you find yourself seeking ways to unwind after the day’s stuff.

Now, unwinding can be considered an art of sorts. It is a challenge, one might say!!! But the question I want to pose here, for you to think upon and maybe comment below, do we really unwind? Like really really?

Now, don’t get me wrong. Every day, after leaving work (school that is), I sorta have a schedule. I might pop into the local supermarket to get some things, I might pop by to see my parents and then off I go home. Returning back is filled with joy as I can finally hug my dogs or my husband, when he is home officeing from time to time. But do I really unwind? Sure, I will put on my comfy homewear and slippers, heck I might go around barefoot as the weather gets warmer. I will make a cup of coffee, I will grab a light snack or an early dinner and I will definitely sit in front of the TV while enjoying those little things. But then things come up. Cleaning, cooking, planning the next day, talking about this and that, noting down what needs to be done the day after, laundry, caring of the dogs, etc. That is definitely not the famous unwinding others manage.

I guess you can also call that ”married life” now. We do! In Greece. But, when I think about it, my life was almost always like that since the end of my studies. Even when the food was ready on the table for me to enjoy, there was always something else that needed to be done by me and for me.

So…. do we really unwind after a demanding day? Maybe. We definitely unwind after a demanding week, because that is what the weekend is for!

No matter when, these are my ways of unwinding:

  • Reading
  • Movies and shows
  • Music
  • Dancing
  • Spending time with my loved ones (dogs & humans)
  • Cooking (sometimes)
  • Gaming.

What about yours?

  1. The list you have has a lot of what I do to unwind. But to really release, relax and reboot, it takes an hour of combining cardio, yoga, meditation & suana. Of course, I can only do that twice a week, if I’m lucky.
