Principles that get me by.

Daily writing prompt
What principles define how you live?

Another writing prompt popped up today when I opened up my wordpress, and that one is not easy to ignore… What is it with all these prompts? They are so challenging and so good. You simply have to sit and think a bit before answering, or take the time to answer in the first place. So, here it goes once again.

The main principle I follow on a daily basis is probably, as one would put it, the cliche one. ”Be kind”. Kindness above all else. It is a simple and positive action that leaves someone in a better situation than before, even if it was just a word you said. Kindness doesn’t have to be extravagant, say paying for someone’s surgery or spending hours volunteering somewhere for a good cause.

Being kind can easily be achieved with a smile. Hold the door for someone. Bring food to someone. Say ”good morning” and ”good bye” to someone. You can be kind to others or you can even be kind to yourself once in a while by treating yourself with a massage or a night our, etc.

Often, people hold back from being kind because they don’t known what to do or if their simplest of action will make an impact. But guess what! They do!!! Kindness benefits all. Not just others but also yourself and your life. Scientific research has actually showed that some benefits of being kind are:

  1. Improved immune system
  2. Decreased stress levels
  3. Feelings of meaning and purpose
  4. A sense of connectedness.

So… whatever your principle that gets you by is, always Be Kind. To others, to yourself.
