The meaning of a Soulmate

Soulmate: noun.

someone, usually your romantic or sexual partner, who you have a special relationship with, and who you know and love very much.

This is the definition the Camrbidge Dictionary provides on the word soulmate…. But have you ever wondered yourself what a soulmate is?

Is it the person with whom you spend an entire life? Or just a person who comes in your life one day and doesn’t leave? The person whom you call your “forever”?Is a soulmate just one person or more? Is it a person who enters and there’s a “before” and an “after” in us from their presence? Maybe a soulmate is a partner. Or a parent. Or your sibling. Or a friend who is true and never leaves you.

No matter who that person is and what is our relationship with them, when they come along and we find them, we are changed. Things will never be the same again. Soulmates are not the people we simply date. No… they are those who stick around through thick and thin and fill our lives and hearts, who make us a bit more whole, who take time to understand us. They make better versions of ourselves. Their love is unconditional.

Soulmates are the people we feel comfortable with and the ones we get along with best. They challenge us, push us, support us. They make us laugh our hearts out but also those who understand our silence. They are those who take a look at us and they will know the day we have faced.

And no matter how difficult life becomes over the years, you never doubt them. Because they will always be there.

A soulmate is a mutual respect. Kindness. A conversation at 2 and 3 a.m. A confidant. A best friend. A loud laugh. The best memories. The confidence. The light in the dark. That other half that makes us whole…
