Sharing Thoughts

A Special Christmas Time.

The holidays are a deeply magical time for many of us. But they can also be stressful and draining. Especially during the time of a pandemic. There is always some planning to be done and while taking care of others, it can be difficult to take care of yourself. However, the holidays should be those days when we can be a little bit in peace as well and remember of what truly matters. Here’s a few ideas on how to care for yourself:

  • Create a routine that focuses on you.

Check in with yourself now and then. Take some time and dedicate moments on you. Be present with your mind and your body. Reflect on what has happened during the season for you and think of the future. Write down your resolutions. The holidays are full of beauty and magic but they can also be a heavy thing for our souls as we are pulled in many directions for different people. Dedicate your mornings on doing something special for yourself – whether that is a bubble bath or a warm cup of coffee with homemade cookies. Love yourself.

  • Learn how to manage the stress.

Stress gets increased for many during the holiday season. It’s important to take a step back and invest some time and energy into things that bring us back home to ourselves. There’s plenty of ways one can manage stress. Meditating is one of those. Or a long walk (especially if you got a dog). Add something into your diet to help yourself relax a bit more. Try some lavender oils for better sleep. These are simple ways to help you.

  • Gratitude.

Mentally, this time of the year can be exhausting. Even more so during a pandemic. The change of the weather and of the daylight can affect one mental’s health. So, each night before bed, no matter how difficult your day might have been, write down three things that you are grateful for. Gratitude helps to transform your view into a positive one and remind you that there is so much beauty out there and in your life. Be present and honest about that things that bring that light in your life. Make time to enjoy them as often as possible. Acknowledge them. Be thankful.

  • Stay connected.

The holiday season is meant to be one that represents connection. However, it can be chaotic or even difficult. Everyone has responsibilities and an amount of energy for certain things which can be drained easily. At some point, you might isolate yourself without really wishing it. Remember to surround yourself with the people that make you feel like home. Create some boundaries with others and keep the negative influences outside. You need to refuel your heart.

  • Small things that spark joy!

Happiness can be found even in the smallest things in life. You probably know some of them already. Thus, pay attention to those things. What brings a smile to your face each morning? Do that! Enjoy that! What makes you feel at home and relaxed? Hold on to that! Keep that close! Surround yourself with those things. There are small ways you can show up for yourself each day and you will realized that they were never that small really.
