This one about Pets.

I have always considered myself to be more of a dog person than a cat person… I’ve had some good moments with cats in the past and I like being around them just as much, but I can see myself always having a dog around no matter what… I definitely love all animals and before, I’ve had a hamster and a couple of fish…

No matter what animal I had under my care, I can honestly say that it was, or is still, one of the best beings in my life.

Sure, owing a pet comes with costs and you must be ready to face the expenses. Whether it is the check ups with the vet, the food or the toys you buy, the bills will simply extend over the years. However, owning a pet has its benefits and, in my humble opinion, these balance our the bills.

Opposite the living expenses, you receive this unconditional love and companioship. You show your love to a dog or a cat and that dog or that cat will love you unconditionally. And that’s priceless. There’s no better feeling than coming home every day after a tiring day at work to a four – legged family member with a wagging tail. Even if you are gone for 5 minutes while taking the trash out, that family member will be thrilled to see you. To them, you are the whole world.

That pet will always be there, or as long as they live anyway. They will snuggle with you, take a walk with you, accompany you on car rides and hang with you on the couch while you watch a movie or read a book. Their existence will improve your mental health and your well-being in some way. Many pet parents have admitted that their levels of stress, depression and anxiety have decreased because of that constant life companion they have by their side.

Another pro on the matter of owning a pet is the home safety. Dogs are perfect for that as they can be vocal and always able to alert you to strangers or sounds inside and outside your home. They provide security and comfort, especially if you live alone.

Owning a pet requires time. And maybe that is one challenge there for you, depending on how you spend your day and what you do professionally. But consider this… Pets are great ice-breakers. They are not afraid to say hello first and this can be to your advantage if starting a conversation isn’t one of your strong suits. Going outside with your pet doesn’t only help with the improvement of your physical health but makes it easier to meet people.

Finally, I am sure you can agree if you have a pet, that it feels good to return the love that dogs and cats give. Many pet parents enjoy being able to nurture and spoil their pets in return. I am one of them! Having that four-legged addition to the family provides some practice in caring and it definirely makes you feel independent.
