Middle Earth Fashion: Hobbits.

Hobbits definitely do not have the elegant style of the Elves in Middle Earth, as their clothes tend to be simple and suitable for the various occupations they follow, and which are the ones taking up a lot of their time in their daily lives. In this case, the clothes are inspired by the attires of farmers in England, mainly during the 17th century and the 18th century.

Male Hobbits can be seen wearing oversized and comfortable shirts in neutral colours, such as white, beige and brown, and they often match them with vests made of velvet or straps, some with subtle embroidery. They are also fond of some accessories and the ancestor of today’s ”cravat” tie. Their trousers tend to be wide and comfortable but also short, leaving their feet uncovered.

Women, on the other hand, can be seen in cotton dresses of different colours. Some are simple, while others have lots of embroidery related details on the bodice. In addition, they combine them with aprons and corsets or long vests. During the day and while outside, they wear bows in their hair, straw hats and some sort of ”bonnet”. In the case of someone like the Sackville – Baggins, they also have an abundance of plant life on their hats.

In both cases of fashion, male or female, the colours used are very earthly tones.
